Family volunteering questions

Can families with young children volunteer in Thailand?

Yes. Families serve together at KMI-Foundation Thailand in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai. We plan roles around your children’s ages, from helping at children’s activities to English practice for teenagers. Parents stay responsible for their own children at all times.

Where would our family stay?

We help families find suitable accommodation in Mae Sai close to our centre, with space for children. Tell us your family’s needs in your enquiry.

How long do families usually stay?

From two weeks during school holidays to several months. Shorter stays suit holiday programmes and camps; longer stays let children build friendships and parents take on regular roles.

Is Mae Sai a good place for children?

Mae Sai is a friendly, affordable border town with markets, mountains and easy trips to Chiang Rai. Healthcare is available in Mae Sai and in Chiang Rai city. The main seasonal risk is flooding in the rainy season (about August to October), so most families come between November and May.

What about our children’s schooling?

Many families home-school or use online school during their stay. Older children can help with classes, which is an education in itself.
