A YWAM team from Canada served with KMI in schools, local fellowships and small groups, and carried the good news into the Golden Triangle.
Read the story“My third time bringing teams from Canada”
Anna has led YWAM volunteer teams to Mae Sai three times, serving through English camps, medical camps and village activities.
This is my third time bringing teams from Canada to volunteer with KMI Foundation Thailand, and every visit has been a meaningful experience. Together, we have served children through English camps, medical camps, and fun activities in villages and border communities around the Golden Triangle. The location gives us opportunities to connect with communities across Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. We are grateful to KMI for their professional organization, thoughtful care for our teams, and the love of God they demonstrate through their ministry. Thank you, KMI, for helping us serve with purpose!

Mae Sai, Chiang Rai and the border
Mae Sai — KMI-Foundation Thailand
Thailand’s northernmost town. Our centre is near Mae Sai Bus Station: free classes, volunteer base and team housing.
Tachileik, Myanmar
Across the Mae Sai bridge. Many families we serve have roots on both sides of the border.
Hill-tribe villages
Villages in the hills around Mae Sai, such as Pha Hee, where we visit families and run children’s programmes.
The Golden Triangle
Where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet on the Mekong — about 40 minutes from Mae Sai.
Chiang Rai city & airport (CEI)
About an hour south. Volunteers fly into Chiang Rai International Airport; we partner with churches here.
Schematic, not to scale.

YWAM outreach questions
Can KMI host our YWAM DTS outreach in Thailand?
Yes. KMI-Foundation Thailand hosts YWAM Discipleship Training School (DTS) and other school outreach teams in Mae Sai and Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand. We have hosted a YWAM team from Canada and plan ministry with local churches and schools.
Is KMI part of YWAM?
No. KMI-Foundation Thailand is an independent registered Christian foundation in Thailand (no. CR 2/2566). We partner with YWAM bases and teams as a local host.
How long can an outreach team stay?
From one week up to the full outreach phase. Many teams serve 2–6 weeks with us, sometimes alongside other locations in Thailand.
What ministry will the team do?
Typically school programmes and English, children’s and youth ministry, local church services and small groups, village visits, practical help and prayer. We plan the schedule with you before you arrive.
Where will the team stay and what does it cost?
We help arrange simple accommodation in Mae Sai and local transport. Teams cover their own housing, food, travel and ministry costs. We share a clear budget when we plan together; KMI does not charge a hosting fee.
Do team members need visas?
Many nationalities can enter Thailand visa-free or with a tourist visa for short outreaches. Rules change, so each member should check with the Thai embassy. For longer volunteer service we can provide documents for a Non-Immigrant O visa.
